There have been times when people have changed the casing of the cartridge, to replace a bad-looking copy. In such scenario, the version number on it might not match the ROM inside. And generally about version differences: you've seen the topic here about the differences. 1.1U only fixed minor thing...
A fairly old glitch, from August 2015, was just re-discovered... In the PAL and JP versions, fight Bleak, get hit and die. Just before the screen starts fading to black, press Start. If timed correctly (One frame window) the fight will be finished and you can continue to the next world. Saves a lot ...
This is present for Diddy and Donkey as well. After you've landed, if you hold right/left for 25 frames, without jumping, the effect will wear off. Though you can keep the speed by jumping. I wouldn't consider it a bug though... It is however useful in speedruns and very handy when I work on my Tool...
The barrel there is the exit barrel for the warp at the beginning of the stage.
There are multiple places, both in this level and others, where the are a few pixels where you are able to stand on like that. Basically unused terrain, more or less, I would presume =).
The second bonus in Orang-utan Gang (DKC). It made it possible to beat the game in 8 minutes, because it's the only bonus room in the game with a grabable DK barrel.
Probably a rather odd reason to like a bonus level .
This is just a rough test I did quite recently: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqKIMUnNdnU It was mainly meant to show off some faster strategies than I saw at TwinGalaxies. I didn't really time anything to see when it is faster to waste time for more points etc. Also: I did that with save states o...
Murky Mill is actually possible. http://www.dkc-atlas.com/maps/dkc3/1-5 Take the warp barrel (Not actually neccesary, but obviously faster...) to the end. First obstacle is to get up to the moving platform after the red zinger. To activate the platform you need to stand on the zinger platform and wa...
It is possible and has been done many many times. You can easily find games like Super Metroid Redesign, The Legend of Zelda Outlands, Zelda Parallel Worlds etc. etc. put on a regular game cartridge and up for sale. There are guides online that will explain how to this if you are unfamiliar with it....
IT'S ON!!! (Though not like Donkey Kong as he is lacking in this game)
As I don't know DKC2 as well, I can probably not help out ( =annoy you with pickyness) with this one. Though it's amazing as always and I'll surely try to tune in daily for this as well!
This is going to be nice at least! I'll likely be in the chat frequently to do some chat moderation, if they are going to re-add me as a moderator at least. But I'll sure be watching when I have the time.
I've basically only used the Ram Search/Watch features in the emulator and copied the values. But one could probably go deeper into the rom and find the speed formula and such. Here is an example of showing the acceleration process for each frame from 0 up to top walking speed, and when you stop wal...
There are also a lot of other warp glitches, inside levels, that can take you between different worlds. Though on the mapscreen, there are only those four located in World 1.
You should probably have some kind of text explaining the unused rooms, like this in Mincers or Slip Slide Ride. Some people might be confused otherwise.
The two mini neckies after the are too close to eachother, should be higher up. And the brown Zinger afterwards is supposed to be moving around in small circles and not stay on the same spot.
The jump height of the kritters is a bit too high. Should be about half. Off-topic glitch videos/descriptions spoilered by Qyzbud : "The Millstone Mayhem warp can only be accessed by DK, and the tire" And just because I feel like being annoying with dumb glitches =): sIxWsf9sAR4 To do ...
Just noticing that the midway barrel is placed a bit too far to the right. Time to be picky .
Seems now that most zingers move fine with Firefox too... Except for two of them: one at the DK barrel before the Winky cave and the other after the last DK barrel before the kritters.
In a 101% speedrun, it is actually faster to use warps to skip some bosses. So far no real time run is using this however, but my upcoming TAS (Which will "never" happen...) will be using it for sure.
Not really much to say about Very Gnawty. Small and simple enough =)
Yes, the animal tokens have a wider hitbox than the bananas, otherwise this would not be possible. It also works with DK barrels. So the bonus in Stop & Go Station will work, as it has a frog on the right side and the one in Millstone Mayhem will work as well, because of a DK barrel on the left....
Should be around 5½ hours now until it's DKC time! But you never know, schedule tends to not be followed =). Especially when runs like this Fire Emblem run went 30 minutes over its time...
YEAH! This is awesome stuff. I'll be a part of the event, though I won't run anything this year. But I will be doing commentary for DKC. So enjoy hearing my crappy accent trying to explain some details about stuff =). Also, it's recommended to use this link for the event page: http://gamesdonequick....
Should be noted that the 8:38 was also streamed live on Twitch. And that is proof enough that it isn't a TAS =P. And yeah, there is also room for improvements in runs, even if they are the fastest to date. TASes are constantly being improved as well. You can't tell when something is perfect or not =).
That video is not a TAS, no, it was the previous WR done on console. Current WR can be seen here: http://www.twitch.tv/kerahime/c/2415937. For comparision, here is my TAS: http://tasvideos.org/3936S.html. I have some info about the run there as well as linked to my old run that has more info. As for...
While I certainly like that there are more DKC games coming, I must say that I was very disappointed to see this being announced. Why? Because Retro have already revived the DKC franchise with a new 2D game. I had rather see them work on a different title, another franchise. As there are so many old...
Very nice collection indeed! But where is the Competition Cartridge?
My "collection" is hardly worth mentioning. But I had plans on getting all version (1.0, 1.1 and 1.2 for all regions) of the SNES games. Though I don't think I'll ever bother...
