The mole guy in Diddy's set.... anybody else think that looks like Hard Hat from DKL?

Whoa! nintendo beat me to it! a different take, though. Nice find! and yes, i thought so too! concerning the mole.

It could be Hard Hat, but it's most likely a mole from Donkey Kong Country Returns.

is this because of the movie?

I think it's likely because DKCR is much more recognizable and recent than DKL.
