Kong-Fu... None of those are useful for tiling as wallpapers, as they only loop seemlessly along the x-axis. (except for the jungle one, which is seemy all over...)
They might work nicely for something like the header graphic here (clouds at the top of each forum page), but certainly not for a more average aspect ratio like a user's desktop. Obviously, if you're a pixel fan, you can enlarge them to fill the screen... but that's not really the point. You can do that with
any graphic.
Sometime down the track, I'd like to work with some of you other graphics gurus to make a bunch of 'official' DKC Atlas wallpapers. We could make dozens... I'd like to have one for every single archetype in the trilogy, and many others of differing themes. We could even construct our own level layouts and place a host of baddies and items in them. I'd love to just start working on this now (sounds like a lot of fun), but I've got a lot going on already.
Oh,
Stone: I think the reason limited palette compression would be giving troubles is due to the dark gradient background I gave the map. There are probably way more than 256 unique colours, as the gradient is a smooth, non-restricted gradient.
