Is this what you mean, Simion32?
Just in case you wanted a variety of branch types, I've changed colours of all of the different branches (hopefully I didn't miss any) from DKC3. I don't think that the ones with leaves look fantastic, so I'd suggest sticking with the stumpy or broken branch.

Yeah, yeah, I know the tree looks really, really stupid with all of those branches, but I didn't feel like making six different trees each with only one branch! :P

I mean like this: oak tree knot ;)

Good branch edits by the way; but they aren't exactly what I was talking about :P

Phyre, you should think about making a hole that fits in the top of the tree, too. That way things can be hidden in it and DK/Kiddy could bust it open.

For the mushrooms, would you consider making a "bouncing" animation like the ones in Sonic & Knuckles? that would add a new element to a stage.

I was actually going to specifically try to rip the mushrooms from sonic and knuckles.

I like the idea about making a hole. I think I'll go ahead and do that, and also try to find a good image of a knot and make it into a sprite.

Here is a breakable tree:

And here is a variety of knots:

Also, here is an animation of the broken tree (which it's not nearly significant enough to warrant its own post in the DKC related animations thread):

Those knots would be the perfect place for Swoopys to spawn out out of.

The breakable tree is interesting. You could use those to hide secret passages to bonus levels, shortcut paths, or entrances to a tree house. When I'm done with basketball math, I'll definitely look into these.

By the way, Phyre, which palette scheme are you using to decorate the trees: Treetop Town or Rope Bridge Rumble?

Those look great!

You may need a slight edit for the large middle knot (the one at top), though.

An edit fix for lighting on the left side knot could be visually appealing too. ;)

They both need to blend into the DKC tree better. The first one has a weird looking bottom.

Well, I'm not exactly sure how to make this look any better... I'm also not going to make these look perfect by any means, after all, it's supposed to be nature.

I've added just a few darker pixels at the bottom; maybe it helps make it look like the knot is more in the tree. Does it look any better? Also, you're more than welcome to edit what I have, since I'm not totally seeing what's wrong, since I am just seeing it as I took the images.

So I had this terrible idea that I decided to go ahead and make. I thought about the game Joust for some reason the other day.... and I knew that your character rode on an ostrich. So when I looked it up, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the enemies in the game rode on vultures. Also, the game takes place in a fiery type level...

So all of those things led to this...

Okay, so admittedly this isn't going to be overly impressive, but using the DKC intro with Cranky, I've edited the girders to make them able to be part of a DKC level *hint hint* ;)

girders.png
girders.png (11.9 KiB) Viewed 672480 times

I'll explain the image just a bit. The top 3 rows would make one girder that could be a platform (the 2nd and 3rd rows are the "pylon" girders). The 4th row is the same as the 1st without the end pieces, this can be cut to shorten it or duplicated to lengthen the beam. The last (5th) row are the ends of the first beam, which can be put together for the smallest platform (I mean, technically, you could shorten it by one "X" if you wanted to, but I thought it looked better with 3 "X's"). The last row allows the platform to be changed in length by adding "X's" from the 4th row.

Hopefully this is cut up enough to be usable by anybody else that wants it.

Not every post has to be a grand undertaking; these isolated girders may be relatively simple compared to some of your efforts, but they could go a long way towards enabling a DK Arcade-themed level/archetype. :)

Also, I haven't shared my thoughts lately (time has been scarce for me up until now), but I really like what you've done with the DKC/DKC3 tree edits, and your tribute to Joust (a game which I've yet to play).

Keep up the good work!

There should be sprites of the Tikis and the Snowmads. The Tikis are confirmed to appear alongside Kremings in Super Smash Bros. for 3DS's Smash Run, and I'd like to see them in the DKCLB too.

Now you need to add Super Kong palettes as well. (And maybe all of DK and Diddy's palettes from the SSB series, but that would be too much work.)

I've done another simple thing. I removed the bandana from mini Necky in DKC2. I also did a colour change to the top one. I thought a colour between Necky and mini Necky in DKC1 would be appropriate. The only name that I could come up with that would fit would be Teenecky since he's between the two Neckys in DKC1.

I don't know if I could go through with a full on animation of everything... but I might try, depending on whether or not people like the idea...

So, I was trying to think of new ways old bosses could be used. Maybe my other ideas are better, though... this is just toying around a little bit.

Yeah, I know resizing sprites doesn't give you the best results... but there's a reason that the body should be this big (unless a comically small body would be better  ) I thought it could start out like a normal Necky battle, but after he gets hit once (or even a few times), he would say "screw this" basically, and fly up. From there, he could spit nuts that maybe would act the same as the eggs, where you must pick it up to throw it.

Again, just playing around, here...

necky idea.png
necky idea.png (8.85 KiB) Viewed 671818 times

Then again... maybe a smaller body would be better... funnier as well as better looking and more feasible for a legit character...

komically small bodied krow.png

Or maybe something in between and compromising with a slightly smaller Necky head and a slightly larger Krow body?

Thoughts?

I personally prefer a proportional body.

Phyre, here's something that could be of use for you. Below is a video of Cockatrice, the Stage 1 boss from Capcom's Super Ghouls N' Ghost:

Anybody have an idea for a name? I thought it would be kinda funny for it to be the wife of either (or both) Master Necky or Necky Snr. (or I guess even the wife [or husband?] of Krow).

As for a name, I don't have one.

Well, you could always go for "Mistress Necky", or simply "Mrs [Krow/Necky]" for the name. :P

At any rate, nicely done; I also prefer the proportional body, so what you've done looks good to me. :)

Lightning bug's crate looks better, too!

Oh, and double/triple posts are fine if you're adding something significant like that. :nicework:

I would animate this for you, Chunky Kong, but I'm not really sure how they are supposed to be animated. If you can animate sprites, I would love to see it in action. If I see how they are set up, I'm sure that I can make a few more sprites in between to get a smoother animation.

Okay... now I have no idea what is going on... you asked for sprites of DK doing that move and you got it... now you're talking about Lanky Kong? First of all, where did that come from? Second of all, I don't even know why you brought it up or what you're asking of me. And third of all, sorry, but I can't do that... no freaking way. I can't just make sprites of nonexistent characters. I edit existing characters to a certain extent. Somebody had asked me a while back to make Cranky a playable character... he has like 20 sprites. I can't do something like that! This is even more impossible!

I did some more editing for the zombie Kremling. Matheus King asked if I could make his limbs fall off, like an edit he did.
It would be up to anybody that wanted it, but I thought it might be kind of neat if Diddy and Dixie had to hit it four times (once for one arm, once for the other arm, once for the head, and once for the final kill) and Donkey and Kiddy had to hit it twice (once for both arms, once for the head to fall off during the final kill).

I thought Krumble was an apt name.
