The intro to the Frankenstein boss in GIover for the N64 has the same melody as Krockship (It's taken out comepletely in the PS1 version.) Probably a cooincidence, though.

Being a big fan of trance music I have always loved the trance fan made remixes of the DKC music series, I have worked on a few that I will share very soon, but recently I found one track that sounds just like the song from the main screen of DKC 2 , K. Rool returns . There has been some debate over the track being made by Zatox or Headhunterz, 2 producers from Germany, so my guess is that they both worked on it. The song is really wild, I was wondering if I should put this here, but If someone else had founded it and posted it I would had been thankful all my life but that is just me .

Hey, that's a good observation... the melodies do have quite a bit in common. Similar tune, similar vibe... completely different musical style!

This topic was originally just for discussing know/speculated 'inspirations' for the DKC trilogy's soundtracks, but it has grown to include general comparisons between DKC tracks and other musical compositions. I will most likely edit the topic name and the first post soon to reflect this.

I'm keen to hear what you've created, and I myself dabble in composing/remixing, from time to time.

The track Right on Time by the Red Hot Chili Peppers has a similar bassline to DKC2's rollercoaster music... 'least I think so.

The first half of the trumpet part of the Indiana Jones theme song sounds like a faster version of Mine Cart Madness at 0:50. The first 5 seconds sound similar but after that, they're completely different. It's probably just a cooincidence.

This sounds so much like In a Snow Bound Land that there's NO WAY it's a coincidence. The theme, the melody, the percussion, the malimba-sounding thing etc.

Also, compare the guitar solo at the end of Rockface Rumble (done by Eveline Fischer) to the melody of Mining Melancholy (done by Dave Wise). Does that count as inspiration?

It's funny how I've that track in my computer, play it almost weekly (I'm a fan of synth music), and never noticed the similarities xD
In the comments there are two guys who say the same, but somebody told one of them he "asked" Dave Wise and "he said that song wasn't his inspiration for In A Snow Bound Land, despite the similarities".

Well, either he's lying and never asked him, it's a REALLY BIG coincidence or...
He said "I asked David Wise but he said he got inspiration from some other song" so MAYBE both songs were inspired by the one song. It's a pity this 'other song' isn't named... =(

I remember reading somewhere that Primal Rave uses the same melody as Aquatic Ambiance. Really mind-blowing when you realize the similarities - how something so peaceful sounding was transformed into jungle rave music is beyond me...

Yeah, that's true. They are VERY similar. Another one I noticed was Bad Boss Boogie (0:20) and Bayou Boogie (0:57). Hey, they both end with 'boogie.'

Yeah, the Boogies could easily be a coincidence, but it's still interesting.
Also, the end of Krook's March is similar to DK Island Swing, and parts of Haunted Chase sound like Mine Cart Madness.

And both those endings sound like slowed-down versions of Indiana Jones' theme (pointed by Kong-Fu), but as he said, it may be a coincidence.
Yesterday I listened to a song that had a guitar tune really similar to Rockface Rumble (GBA version, you know the country one). Couldn't get the name of it, but if I ever listen to it again, I'll check =P

I'm a bit late in getting back to this topic, but I checked out Theme from Antarctica, and yeah, it's definitely the inspiration for In a Snow-Bound Land. Even if it was only the melody that the two tracks had in common, it would be a strong likeness... but like you said, there are just too many obscure commonalities for it to be a coincidence. I'm impressed with how David Wise managed to expand upon the original tune, though - the track he produced is a much more intricate and emotive piece, I would say. It's odd to hear that there are reports denying this Vangelis track being the source of inspiration, especially considering the artists Dave listed as his inspirations, which as you pointed out, included Vangelis.

I've updated the original post to reflect this source of inspiration, and have noted Cody's observation of Can't Buy Me Love's melody which Mill Fever most definitely shares. The list in that post is ordered based on how significant the inspiration was. The tracks at the top of the list being the ones with the strongest resemblance to one another.

Also, The Last of the Summer Wine theme sounds a little bit like Stilt Village.
The first 20 seconds or so of the Hook theme sounds like a mix of K. Rool Returns, Jib Jig and Lockjaw's Saga.

EDIT: Another Vangelis song. It kinda sounds Mining Melancholy-ish, but the resemblance isn't nearly as close as Antarctica/Snow Bound Land.
EDIT AGAIN: Actually I think I'm trying to hard to hear DKC music. It really isn't close at all...

Okay, I checked out the links Sockpuppet posted... I'm pretty convinced that DKC3's Hot Pursuit music is based on Michael Jackson's They Don't Care About Us. That part of MJ's song actually sounds really cool, and almost doesn't seem to fit in with the rest of the track. If I was going to make a rock/metal Hot Pursuit remix, I would totally sample They Don't Care About Us. It sounds sweet.

The theme music of The Last of the Summer Wine has a few recognisable notes, but very little of it bears any similarity to Stilt Village. Upon listening to the link you posted, I was immediately reminded of Zelda: OoT's Kakariko Village theme... Personally, I would say there's a lot more resemblance between Kakariko and Summer Wine. Especially when considering the mood and instrument choice similarities.

The music from Hook sounded a little similar perhaps (I'm sure Rare would have listened to a few pirate movie soundtracks for a bit of inspiration!), and I could hear what you were referring to with Vangelis' Conquest of Paradise (the humming voices, right?), but yeah, it doesn't sound like a dead ringer. Still, it's cool to have a listen.

I'd say you're right about RC Pro Am => Bad Bird Rag, too.

I forgot to check out the Maple Story music though... will do that soon. Of course the music in that game is much more likely to be based on Muggorsky's classic than DKC2's replica, but it'll still be interesting to have a listen.

Oh, I just remembered something else! About a week ago my sister was watching Master Chef, and suddenly this music came on that sounded EXACTLY like a portion of Northern Hemispheres (DKC snow music). If the music was composed specifically for the show then it's definitely not an inspiration (I suppose MC could've been inspired by DKC...), but if MC uses already existing songs then it could be.

On the subject of DKC music sounding like other DKC music, has anybody noticed the amount of Jungle songs that all are the same for the first 20 seconds, and then change up a bit?
